Lord! Teach Us to Pray #3

When a personal relationship with God is lost or undeveloped, man seeks the assurance of their salvation elsewhere. As a rule, such people rely on the observance of the law (commandments, observances, tradition) rather than being justified by faith in the accomplishment of Christ. As a result, the emphasis shifts as well as the object of faith and worship.

»You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me.» (Deut. 5: 7-9)
